Welcome back to the mainland!

I'm surprised that the McDonald's restaurants there haven't picked up serving macadamia nuts as "McNuts". After all, they already have items that cannot be found at the mainland restaurants -- Spam and/or Portuguese sausage and eggs, pineapple, taro pie -- just to name a few.

Why is Hawaii such a popular place for linguabloggers? Anyway, maybe it will help to think of "plate lunch" as kind of like "blue plate special" - or does that not apply to Californians? (I'm from the midwest/south; blue plate is everywhere.)
