Neal Whitman

For me, 'sucks' hasn't moved far enough away from its literal meaning for me to be OK with my kids saying it. So when my 7-year-old is singing the line "the Mexican food sucks north of here anyway" from a recent pop song, I've instructed him that "the Mexican food's bad" is an acceptable replacement. (Likewise, I have him say "do a dance" instead of "shake her ass" when he sings "1985" by the same band.)
