Greenberg (1963): With overwhelmingly greater than chance frequency you and I do not occur together.
Labov (1966): You're out of my class.

Berlin and Kay (1969): It's all black and white with you, isn't it?

Dixon (1972): Balan djugumbil banggul yaranggu balgan.

Lakoff (1987): You're dangerous, it's like playing with fire.

Ruhlen (1987): We're more like brother and sister.

Prince and Smolensky (1993): *FAITHFULNESS

The Tensor

Not to step on SC's toes, but how about:

Chomsky (1965): I know everything seems fine on the surface, but deep down we just aren't right for each other.

Chomsky (1981): You're not the boss of me. I'm suffocating in this relationship!

Chomsky (1995): If we had as little to do with each other as possible, that would be perfect.

Semantic Compositions

Wow, I like all of those. It's going to be a week before I recover from the fact that someone else came up with the OT line before I did.

I can't let myself not have a phonology line or two, so here goes:

Chomsky and Halle (1968): We just don't seem to work in the same environment.

Kiparsky (1982): We're just at different stages in our relationship.

And one more syntax one:

Kaplan and Bresnan (1982): I just don't think we could ever successfully unify.

Demon gloss #7

... and one for Kyle Johnson (2004 lectures)--> This relationship is heading somewhere that doesn't.

in support of empty-headed syllables: I thought you were contentful from the onset, now i now you're just empty-headed.

existentiality and intentionality etc: There is a relationship developping, but i think the more temporary its existence the better.
