A new linguistics blog called Namu Pa'i 'Ai has opened for business (what would I ever do without referral logs?), and has a couple of very interesting articles already. SC's eye is drawn to this story suggesting that some Hawaiian girls spending time in a Utah prison (itself an odd story) may have been subjected to rather hard treatment on account of speaking in a language their jailers didn't recognize. Yikes!
(Which isn't to say they hadn't earned a trip to jail; the article doesn't say how they made it there to begin with).
Anyway, if you'd like to find out what pidgins and taro roots have in common, or the historic origins of British gay nightclub language, Namu Pa'i 'Ai's for you. Enthusiastically recommended.
